I hadn’t intended this hiatus to become as long as it has, but it did, and now I’ve returned.  I’m eager to fall back into the routine of scouring the world for ginkgo.

I have a few outstanding reader e-mails to respond to, and I expect to be able to process those shortly. Unfortunately, there are a number of older e-mails (and I do mean old) that won’t get an answer, as a sad computer event earlier this year wiped them out (just the e-mail, as I had everything else backed up). If you’d like a response, please (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) again, and I’ll respond shortly.

Snow is falling outside my window as I write, big wet globs of it. Very likely all of the ginkgo leaves have fallen. A recent absence meant that I didn’t check up on my local ginkgos. I’ll make a drive by later this week to confirm.

In any case, I look forward to bringing you the best ginkgo I can find. It’s good to be back.

I seem to have had a long-standing problem with both comments and e-mail, both possibly now fixed.

Would a few readers be so kind as to either leave a comment or to drop me a e-mail through the Contact link on the sidebar?

Thanks for both your help and patience.

Ginkgo Dreams has been quiet during January, as I have been occupied with other things.

However, time seems to be returning to its normal shape, and you’ll see me picking up the pace shortly. Most notably, Ginkgo Dreams will be hosting February’s Festival of the Trees. Expect to see it up bright and early (here, anyway) on Thursday.

Ginkgo Dreams celebrates its first-year anniversary

While it’s hard to believe that Ginkgo Dreams has been around for a year, it’s not so hard to believe that I completely missed an occasion for celebration. August 18, 2006 marked the first anniversary of this site. One year ago, I made my first post here. The work begun then came to a screeching halt in October when I experienced some major issues with my previous host. I didn’t pick up this project again until April.

The last year wouldn’t have been possible without the kindness of the many contributors who have graciously allowed their work, whether in word or picture, to appear here. I thank all of you.

I’m grateful to all of my readers as well. While I created this project for myself, you’ve given me a larger reason for being here.

If you’d like to subscribe to Ginkgo Dreams, click Subscribe in the sidebar. There you’ll have either the option of adding Ginkgo Dreams to your feed reader, or you may choose to subscribe via e-mail. E-mail subscriptions are handled via Feedburner, who promises never to share your e-mail address with anyone else. I typically post several times a week.

Here’s to another year!

There is a very good chance that this site will be down for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow.

But I’ll be back.

My name is Kelly Schmitt Youngberg, and I curate the collection here at Ginkgo Dreams. I’ve been fascinated with gingko trees ever since I watched one turn golden in a small courtyard below my third floor apartment in Seoul, South Korea. The intense color, the fan-shaped leaves, and the bright circle that suddenly appeared at the base of the tree one autumn day left a strong impression on my young visual soul.

I’ve wanted to plant a ginkgo tree in our front yard since we bought our house. In preparation, I’ve decided to learn as much as I can about ginkgo trees. I’ve noticed that ginkgo leaves are frequently used as a design motif, and as I’ve looked for ways to incorporate a ginkgo theme into our home, I’ve found some interesting and beautiful products. Ginkgo Dreams is the place where I record the results of both my tree and design research.

Ginkgo biloba has been shown to have some medicinal benefits, but to date my policy is not to post them here. For now, there is enough beauty in the form and knowledge to be learned about cultivation and different types of ginkgo trees.

Readers are otherwise welcome to submit ideas for content. You may contact me at kelly at ginkgodreams dot com.
